Ohio state tax uses Form IT 4 with 1 exemption (yourself). The rates are the ones in force for pay from 1 August 2026. Many Ohio cities have a municipal income tax, and many school districts have an income tax. Both are left out of the calculator.

Each paycheck is the yearly amount divided by the number of paychecks, in cents. If your pay is over the Social Security limit of $184,500.00, your real paychecks have no Social Security tax late in the year. The average rate is your taxes divided by your pay. The marginal rate is the same taxes on your next dollar. This is an estimate for 2026.

Ohio tax on your paycheck

Ohio takes 1.6% of the first $26,050 of your pay, 2.99% of the part up to $100,000 and 3.4% of the rest, after $650 for each exemption. These are the rates for pay from 1 August 2026, which Ohio lowered from 1.775%, 2.99% and 3.64%. The calculator uses the new rates for the whole year, so a paycheck from before August was a little higher.
