Questions

How much is $80,000 a year after tax in Australia?

In Australia, $80,000 a year gives $63,880.00 after tax in 2026-27. This is $5,323.33 a month. Income tax is $14,520.00 and the Medicare levy is $1,600.00.

How does the calculator work?

Type your pay. Choose if it is for a year, a month, a fortnight, a week or an hour. Add a study or training loan if you have one. The page shows your income tax, the low income tax offset and the Medicare levy. Then it shows your take-home pay for a year, a month, a fortnight and a week.

Which year does it use?

It uses the rates for the income year 2026-27. This year runs from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. The rates come from the Australian Taxation Office. The page About the numbers has the sources.

Is super in my take-home pay?

No. Your employer pays the super guarantee of 12% on top of your pay, into your super fund. The page shows it as information. If your pay includes super, tick that box and the calculator takes it out first.

Is the result exact?

No. It is an estimate for an Australian resident with one job, for a full year, who claims the tax-free threshold. Your payslip can be different, because of deductions, other offsets, other income and the Medicare levy surcharge.
