About the numbers
This is an estimate, not tax advice
The calculators give an estimate for one person and one full year. They do not replace your payslip, your tax return or a tax agent. Your real tax can be different.
Where the numbers come from
All the rates are for the income year 2026-27, from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. They come from these pages of the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
- Tax rates - Australian residents, Australian Taxation Office. The resident income tax rates and brackets.
- What is the Medicare levy?, Australian Taxation Office. The Medicare levy rate.
- Medicare levy reduction for low-income earners, Australian Taxation Office. The thresholds and the part of the levy for a single person with a low income.
- Low income tax offset, Australian Taxation Office. The amount of the offset and how it falls as income grows.
- Study and training loan: minimum repayment income and rates, Australian Taxation Office. The compulsory repayment of a study and training support loan, such as HELP.
- Super guarantee, Australian Taxation Office. The rate of super your employer pays on top of your pay.
What is included
- A resident of Australia for tax, for the full income year.
- One job, with the tax-free threshold claimed.
- Income tax at the resident rates.
- The low income tax offset.
- The Medicare levy for a single person.
- The compulsory repayment of a study and training support loan, such as HELP. The calculator uses your pay as your repayment income.
- The super guarantee of 12%. Your employer pays it on top of your pay, so it is shown as information and it is not in your take-home pay. If your pay is a package that includes super, tick the box and the calculator takes the super out first.
Not included
- The Medicare levy surcharge. The calculator assumes you have private hospital cover or your income is under the threshold.
- Other offsets and tax deductions.
- Salary sacrifice to super.
- Foreign residents, working holiday makers, and people who do not claim the tax-free threshold.
- Two jobs, and pay that changes during the year.
- Other income, such as interest, dividends, rent and capital gains.
- Families, and the Medicare levy rules for couples and children.
Medicare levy for a low income
The ATO has not published the 2026-27 thresholds yet. The calculator uses the 2025-26 numbers for a single person: no levy at or below $28,011, the full levy above $35,013, and a part of the levy between them. We will update the numbers when the ATO publishes the new ones.
Updates
The Australian tax tables are updated each July, when the new income year starts.
